The business is taken over by Auke Lankhorst, the middle son, who had been a common employee on his father's ropewalk. This change in status may have been due to his marriage in 1829 where the bride contributed with almost 7,000 guilders to the marriage. The company grows from three workers on the ropewalk to fourteen employees.
